Full Description:

Stafford, Va. – A new remote drop-off center for recyclable materials will open at North Stafford High School on Friday, December 17. The Rock Hill District site will be located in the rear parking lot of the school, at 839 Garrisonville Road. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on December 17 at 3:00 p.m. “Thanks to the support of Principal Thomas Nichols, citizens have a convenient location to dispose of recyclable materials,” said Diane Jones, Recycling and Litter Prevention Coordinator. “I’d also like to thank the members of Students Serving Stafford who provided signs directing citizens to the center. All the North Stafford High School Wolverines have been a tremendous help in getting the center up and running.” Stafford residents can use three other drop-off centers in Stafford for their recyclable products: GEICO Drop-Off Center behind the GEICO Insurance complex off of Route 17 (Warrenton Road) on Stafford Lakes Parkway. Widewater Drop-Off Center located next to the Potomac Hills Volunteer Fire and Rescue station at 3528 Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. Route 1), north of the Crucifix. White Oak Drop-Off Center at Earl’s True Value Hardware store at 101 White Oak Road (SR-218). All centers are open from 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Each site has three bins: one for commingled food containers (clear, brown, green glass bottles/jars, all numbers of plastic food containers, and aluminum and steel cans); one for newspapers and glossy publications (magazines and catalogs); and another for corrugated cardboard. The Regional Landfill also accepts recyclable materials. The landfill is located at 489 Eskimo Hill Road. Its operating hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. To learn more about litter prevention efforts in Stafford and volunteer opportunities, contact Diane Jones by e-mail at djones@co.stafford.va.us, or call (540) 658-8680. More information is also available online at Stafford County by choosing Recycling from the drop-down menu.
